"Only silence is shame" - Bartolomeo Vanzetti

Helen Barolini

Helen Barolini, in her witing and her life, has created between her birthplace in the United States and Italy, the ancestral land. She is the author of ten books, six of which are currently available, including the soon-to-be-released The Dream Book: An Anthology of Writings by Italian American Women, winner of an American book award when it was first published in 1985, and now with an updated Introduction. She has also published over fifty stories and essays in literary reviews, anthologies and the series Best American Essays. In 1999, with the re-issue of her first novel Umbertina, soon to be published in Italy, Barolini was invited by the United States Information Service in Milan to speak in six Italian cities on her cross-cultural work.
